I am so excited to host my very first giveaway - just in time for the holiday season! Five months ago I started my blog after years of (fanatically) reading other people's blogs. I am happy I took the plunge, it give me the opportunity already meet a lot of great people - both online and in real life. To thank you for your continuous support, I have teamed up with Margaret from Marge's Feathers for this giveaway. Margaret was so generous to sponsor one of her beautiful handmade feather pendants... and you can be the lucky one to win it!
Not just a feather pendant...
Marge's Feathers are not just 'regular' feather pendants. While Margaret was in her senior year of Rhode Island School for Design, she took a class called 'electroforming'. Electroforming is used to plate metal onto usually inorganic materials. It is a very complicated process where electromagnetic charges are ran through an item and a large piece of copper submerged in a vat of hydrochloric acid. Through the electric current, the metal moves from the bar to the item. Margaret spent her time working with chemistry and voltage to try to work with organic material - which is usually eaten away by the acid. Through her experimenting she found that something in the makeup of a feather is not reactive to the acid. And that's how the idea for these beautiful pendants came up!
To create a pendant, it has to undergo a long process: each feather has to sit 24 hours in a bath to get the right amount of metal and detail. Every piece is 100% unique and all pendants vary in color, size and amount of copper. Go have a look at Marge's Feathers... they also make beautiful Christmas presents! ;-)
